Price and Features

  • Entry trims: the K4 LX ($22,390) has a 12.3-in. touchscreen, wireless phone mirroring, remote start and Smart Cruise with Stop & Go. The Civic LX ($24,995) has a 7-in. screen with wired phone mirroring and adaptive cruise.

Fuel Economy

The gas Civic LX beats the K4 by 3 mpg combined, worth about $126 a year at 12,000 miles. The Civic Sport Hybrid saves about $493 a year over a 2.0L K4, but it costs $7,305 more than a K4 LX, so it takes many years to pay back on fuel alone.

Denver regular gas averaged $4.15 a gallon the week of October 12, 2026 (U.S. EIA).

Power and Performance

  • Base engines are close: 147 hp in the K4 versus 150 hp in the Civic, both with a CVT-type transmission.
  • Upgrades: the K4 GT-Line Turbo ($28,490) adds a 190-hp turbo with an 8-speed automatic, a turbo that also helps at Denver's altitude. The Civic's upgrade is its 200-hp hybrid, from $29,695.
  • No Civic Si for 2027: Honda paused the Si after the 2026 model year.

Hatchbacks

The K4 Hatchback starts at $25,090 with heated seats, SynTex upholstery and dual-zone climate. The Civic Hatchback starts at $28,195. The Civic has more cargo room with the seats up (24.5 vs. 22.2 cu ft); Kia rates the K4 Hatchback at 59.3 cu ft with the rear seats folded, and Honda doesn't publish a folded figure. See our K4 Hatchback guide.

Where the Civic Wins

An honest comparison names the rival's advantages:

  • Better gas mileage: 36 mpg combined for the sedan LX versus 33.
  • A hybrid rated 49 mpg (sedan) and 47 mpg (hatchback), with 200 hp. The K4 has no hybrid.
  • More hatchback cargo space with the seats up: 24.5 versus 22.2 cu ft.
  • Knee airbags for both front occupants, plus Traffic Sign Recognition and Traffic Jam Assist on every trim.
  • The 2026 Civic Hatchback is an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK. (The 2026 K4 sedan is a TOP SAFETY PICK+; the rating doesn't cover the K4 Hatchback.)
  • Civics assembled in the U.S. can qualify for the car loan interest deduction. The K4 is built in Mexico and doesn't qualify. Check the window sticker for final assembly.
