The Ioniq 9 goes farther at every step. The EV9 answers with more power on its mid trims (379 vs. 303 hp), a lower entry price and more standard equipment: every EV9 has ventilated front seats, a power passenger seat, a power liftgate, Vehicle-to-Load power and Digital Key 2.0. The Ioniq 9 S has none of those; V2L and Digital Key start on the Limited.

Charging and Colorado Winters

  • Same fast-charging time: both quote about 24 minutes for 10 to 80% on a 350-kW charger.
  • Tesla Superchargers: both have a built-in NACS port. Kia quotes about 34 minutes (10-80%) for the 99.8-kWh EV9; Hyundai quotes about 40 minutes for the Ioniq 9.
  • Adapters: Hyundai includes a CCS adapter for stations such as Electrify America. Kia sells its adapter separately.
  • Heat pump: standard on every Ioniq 9. On the EV9, it comes on the AWD Wind, Land and GT-Line. Every EV loses some range in freezing weather.
  • Clearance: AWD EV9s sit at 7.8 in., versus 6.9 in. for every Ioniq 9, a help on snowy side streets and trailhead roads.

Space and Seating

Both seat six or seven. The Ioniq 9 is 2 in. longer and carries more: 21.9 cu ft behind the third row versus 20.2, and 86.9 cu ft maximum versus 81.7. Third-row room depends on seating: in seven-seat form, the Ioniq 9 has 32 in. of legroom versus 30.8 in the EV9; with captain's chairs, the EV9 has 32.0 in. versus 31. The EV9 offers captain's chairs from the $57,900 Light Long Range; the Ioniq 9 seats six only from the $71,250 Limited.

Tax Credits

  • Colorado: both qualify for the $750 state credit if you take delivery by Dec. 31, 2026. Under Colorado's 2027 rules, EVs priced over $50,000 get no credit, which covers every EV9 and Ioniq 9. See our Colorado EV tax credit guide.
  • Federal: the federal EV credit ended Sept. 30, 2025, for both.
  • Car loan interest: both are assembled in Georgia, so either can qualify for the car loan interest deduction when financed for personal use.
