Rod bearing wear is usually tied to oil starvation or debris left from manufacturing on the affected engines. Left alone, a worn bearing can spin, break a connecting rod and destroy the engine, which is why Kia added KSDS and extended the warranty instead of waiting for failures.

- Don't just clear the code. Clearing P1326 turns the light off but doesn't fix the bearing. The system will set it again.
- Keep receipts for towing or rental cars related to an engine failure; the settlement programs have reimbursement rules and deadlines.

What does Kia code P1326 mean?
P1326 is set by Kia's Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software when it detects vibration consistent with connecting rod bearing wear. It turns on the check-engine light, often flashing, and can put the engine into reduced-power limp mode to protect it.
Can I keep driving with code P1326?
Drive as little as possible. Limp mode is meant to get you to a Kia dealer at low speed, not for daily driving. If you hear knocking, see the oil pressure light, or the engine stalls, stop and have it towed.
Is P1326 covered by Kia's warranty?
Often, yes. The 2011-2019 Optima and 2012-2019 Sorento and Sportage with Theta II GDI engines get a lifetime short-block warranty. Certain Forte, Forte Koup, Optima Hybrid, Sorento, Soul and Sportage engines get 15 years or 150,000 miles. Both require the free KSDS update.
Is P1326 a recall?
Mostly no. The KSDS update is a Kia product improvement campaign tied to class action settlements, not a safety recall. A few engines are also covered by NHTSA recalls 20V-750 and 21V-844. Either way, the update and covered repairs cost you nothing.
What if my Kia never got the KSDS update?
Book it now. It's free at any Kia dealer, and the extended coverage generally requires the update to be installed before a qualifying failure. If the code is already on, come in anyway and we'll check what applies to your VIN.
I bought my Kia used. Am I still covered?
Usually. The 15-year/150,000-mile coverage transfers to later owners who use the car personally. For the lifetime program, eligibility follows the VIN and the KSDS update; we'll confirm yours at the inspection.
Will clearing the code fix P1326?
No. Clearing the code only turns off the light. If the bearing is worn, the KSDS will set P1326 again, and continued driving can destroy the engine.
How long does a P1326 repair take?
The inspection comes first. If the engine needs a short block or replacement, the timeline depends on parts availability, and we'll give you a date once parts are confirmed. Ask about a loaner when you book.
Can newer Kias get P1326?
The KSDS programs cover the older engines in the table above. Newer Kias, like the K5, Telluride, and 2020-and-newer Sorento and Sportage, aren't part of those programs. Any check-engine light should still be diagnosed.
